This is caused by the Date & Time settings on your device changing from what they were when you started playing the game. Go into the Date & Time Settings menu on your device and make sure that the settings look correct.
Note, adjusting the time and date settings on your device and opening the Tiny Tower app can cause errors with backups, daily rewards and visiting friends.
